First Things To Check For If Your Car Won’t Start

December 2, 2019 By WebGuy

Do you freak out when you turn that key, and nothing happens? Are you late getting places because your car won’t start? Have these embarrassing moments become so frequent that you have thoughts of selling your vehicle?

Wait! Let’s take a second look. Here are some troubleshooting points to consider to narrow down the problem.

Steering Wheel Lock – If you insert your key, but the key will not turn, chances are your steering wheel is in a locked position. To unlock, wiggle the steering wheel back and forth until the ignition locking device releases. This is a frequent problem, but easy to solve.

Empty Fuel Tank – Yes, it happens. An empty fuel tank is one of the most common reasons for a car not starting. Ensure that your fuel tank is always sufficiently filled with gas, to avoid a disrupted start.

Dead Battery – The moment you turn the key, the battery delivers current to the alternator, which triggers the whole ignition system. A dead or weak battery will result in no or insufficient flow of current to start the engine. There will be no sound when the key is turned if the battery is dead. If the battery is weak, the first turn may make a sound, but the engine will not start or the start will be sluggish. Any additional key turns will have no sound.

Snapped Starter – Starter plays a pivotal role in starting a car, as it cranks the engine. A damaged starter will not allow the engine to start. A clicking noise will be heard when you turn the key. This clicking sound reveals a broken starter.

Busted Ignition Switch – If the car’s headlights turn on, but the car fails to start, then the battery is not to blame. A more suspicious culprit is a bad ignition switch.

Fouled Fuel Filter – Your fuel filter is responsible for supplying gasoline to the engine. A clogged filter cuts the fuel supply from the engine and makes the whole system dead.

Most people can solve a loose wire, dead battery, or empty fuel tank. A blocked fuel filter or broken starter will need to be done by a technician. If you troubleshoot these problems and the car still won’t start, it is time to take it to a mechanic for evaluation.

If your car won’t start – we can help.  Just call Unlimited Recovery and Towing at 919-790-9393 for all your roadside assistance and towing needs.

Maintenance Tips to Extend the Lifespan of Your Vehicle

November 4, 2019 By WebGuy

Caring for your Car

Unlimited Recovery vehicle tipsWith the expenses on your household budget continuously increasing, the last thing you want to worry about is your vehicle breaking down, forcing you to buy a new one. Fortunately, there are some easy-to-follow maintenance tips to keep your vehicle running for years.

Give Special Attention to the Tires

Tires are probably the most misunderstood part of the car as most people don’t think they hold much weight in the maintenance of the whole vehicle. This idea is wrong. Tires should be moved to the top of the list.

Regularly check your tires. Check the tire pressure before going on long trips and consult the vehicle owner’s manual if you don’t know the suggested pressure for your vehicle tires. Most cars also have a label on the driver’s side door that lists the tire pressure (PSI).

Never drive with over-inflated or flat tires as they reduce the lifespan of the tires. Check with your local tire dealer if the tires on your car need to be rotated. The recommended rotation pattern is different for the type and brand of tires.

Don’t Drive Wrecklessly

Driving responsibly is a huge contributor to the lifespan of your vehicle. Don’t ride the brakes while driving or accelerate too fast. These extreme driving behaviors are hard on a car and reduce its lifespan. Treat your car well, and it will do the same to you.

Check Oil Regularly

Oil is the major component and plays a massive role in keeping your vehicle’s engine in working order. Not only does it enhance the lifespan of your engine, but it also improves your gas mileage.

The recommended time between oil changes is 4 to 6 months; however, it depends upon the usage of your vehicle. Change it before going over 5000 miles to get the best results.

Another important tip here is to change the oil filter along with the oil change because running new oil through a dirty filter reduces the benefit of new oil.

Refer to the vehicle owner’s manual to get more details about how often to change the oil and what type of oil to use as it varies from vehicle to vehicle.

Don’t get comfortable just following the sticker in the corner of your windshield or what your car tells you – check that oil regularly and make sure you’re still looking good. You’d rather look too much and always find great looking oil than the one time you do look you find horribly old oil that’s doing nothing but hurting your car.

Follow these vehicle tips to keep you car running in perfect order.  If you ever need road maintenance or a tow, contact Unlimited Recovery at 919-790-9393.

The Safest Places You Can Wait for Roadside Assistance

October 7, 2019 By WebGuy

No Roadside is Always Truly Safe

Unlimited Recovery roadside assistanceOne of the most unfortunate incidents that can happen to anyone is getting stranded on the road. Being forced to wait for help by the roadside where uncertainties arise is irritating. Many drivers are not ready to deal with an emergency where they have to wait by the roadside. No one feels good when their trip is cut short by an emergency car breakdown.

To make matters worse, most drivers don’t know where and how to park and be safe as they wait for roadside assistance. Many people get injured today when waiting for roadside assistance. In case of an emergency breakdown, the safety of the driver is dependent on where the car is parked. Are you visible to all the other drivers on the road? Can you see everything going on in your car and around you? Below are safe places you can wait for roadside assistance:

Right Shoulder of the Road

Most of the highway roads have a lane where drivers park in case of any emergency. In the case where the engine is running, and you can drive the car, maneuver to the right shoulder of the road. Pull off to the right as far as possible. Here, the vehicle is safe as it stays clear of the oncoming traffic. Blocking the roadway is dangerous for you and other road users. Not all drivers can dodge your car quickly, and you might end up getting hit.

Stay Inside the Car

If the car engine is running and not smoking or overheated, stay seat-belted in the car. The car is more visible than you, and if it’s on the right shoulder of the road, everyone is safe. Waiting for roadside assistance inside the vehicle is safer, especially if it’s night and the ETA for your road assistance is not definite. Keep the car door locked, engine running and windows closed.

Stay Away From Traffic

In case the car breaks down on a highway, and it’s safe to exit the vehicle, do so through the passenger door. If the car is in the middle of the road, the emergency kits help keep the car visible and warn other drivers on the roadway of a broken down car meters ahead. Wear a fluorescent jacket if possible and stay far away from the traffic. Never stay in the broken down car at the middle of the road waiting for roadside assistance.

Getting stranded on the road is frustrating but remember your safety is much more critical. Calling roadside assistance is the best thing to do in such a situation. If you can steer the car off the road in any way, do so before roadside assistance arrives.

If you are ever stranded on the road and need assistance, call Unlimited Recovery at 919-790-9393.

Why You Need Someone Patrolling Your Parking Lot

April 9, 2018 By WebGuy

Unlimited Recovery illegal parkingYou Need Someone Patrolling Your Parking Lot

If you own space in a parking lot or if you own and manage a parking lot, it is important to have patrol ensuring that all is working as it should. While most parking lots have surveillance cameras that monitor the movement of vehicles and people, these cameras are limited in that they serve to help you see what is happening but cannot tell you much about the people parking there.

There are many benefits to having someone patrol your parking lot if you hope to exercise good parking lot management.

Cost of Business

If you have non-customers parking in your lot, then you risk losing business because if your client or potential client comes to your business premises and finds the parking lot full, they might be tempted to go elsewhere for the products and or services they are looking for. Let’s face it, no matter how clearly and appropriately you mark your parking space, some people can’t help but try and take advantage. Having someone patrolling will ensure that only your clients park in the designated area.

Security concerns

While cameras are great for surveillance, they cannot see everything and everywhere. Unscrupulous individuals will take time to figure out the cameras’ blind spots and get into mischief. You cannot risk having your client’s cars broken into or worse still stolen and therefore having some patrol the parking lot at all times is imperative for security.

Illegal parking

I cannot count the number of times I’ve spotted cars illegally parked in loading zones, handicap parking spots, name it. Some people can’t resist breaking their rules and when they do, it could cost you a lot. Suppose you run a business that expects deliveries at a certain time but you are unable to offload what is needed because the loading zone is occupied. Or if you have a handicapped client who can’t find a parking spot because some inconsiderate individual parked in one of the few spots set aside for the handicap. If in such situations you have someone patrolling the parking lot, they will ensure no cars are parked where they shouldn’t be and if they do, then they can quickly resolve the situation by calling a towing company to remove the vehicles.

Now that you know you need someone to patrol your parking lot, why not work with the best? Unlimited Recovery is a company that offers parking lot management services that include illegal parking management. They will remove any and all illegally parked vehicles which are parked in No parking zones, in a fire lane, in a reserved company parking. They move the cars non-consensually but not illegally.

They also monitor parking spaces in shopping centers, apartment buildings, business parking spaces and off-street parking lots. This way the people intended to use those parking lots can do so without any inconveniences.

Hiring them means your parking lot stays clear and friendly to users, and you get peace of mind for not having to deal with the drama behind the scene. Get more information on how to hire them from their site, Unlimited professional services offers the highest quality parking lot management in the Raleigh area!

What Kind Of Tow Truck Do I Need?

March 5, 2018 By WebGuy

Unlimited Recovery tow trucksIn most instances, hiring the services of a towing company is often the last resort and is not always a planned agenda. Despite this, vehicles can suddenly break down at any time and when that happens, hiring a towing company becomes inevitable.

What many do not also know is that towing a vehicle is a complicated process that requires using the appropriate tow. Towing trucks have specific designs, and each of them comes with their particular uses and benefits. It is therefore crucial that you know which type suits your needs so that you do not end up wasting your time, efforts and money.

Types Of Towing Vehicles And Their Uses

Flatbed Tow Trucks – this tow truck works using a hydraulic system. It is usually long and empty at the back. The hydraulic system makes it easy to drive a vehicle up an inclined plane, or if broken down, it can be pulled up quickly. Flatbed tow trucks are most suitable for vehicles that developed a fault on the roadside or with cars that have been in an accident.

Hook And Chain Tow Trucks – this one can be used to tow all kinds of cargo. A hook is attached to the vehicle, and it is lifted off the ground such that two of its wheel remains on the ground. Hook and chain tow trucks can apply a lot of pressure on the towed vehicle, and this sometimes results in further damage. All-wheel drive and 4X4 cars/trucks cannot be pulled using this type of truck. It is best suited for a wrecked car.

Integrated Tow Trucks – this tow truck is specially built for heavy-duty purposes. It is used to transport rigs or buses, with its extra axles producing stability and strength.

Wheel Lift – its setup consists of a metal yoke that is placed under the rear or front wheels of a vehicle(depending on which wheels are the drive wheels). It lifts the automobile without place stress on the bumper. It is very cheap, and the weight of the yoke on the vehicle is evenly distributed. It is suitable for towing coaches, caravans, motorhomes, trucks, etc.

Knowing the tow trucks listed above are quite essential and will guide our decisions in those moments when our vehicles break down unexpectedly.

When calling for a towing service, be prepared to tell the company the type of vehicle and the condition of the vehicle being towed. With that information, the towing service will send the proper equipment to get the job done.

Stuck in the Snow? 5 Things To Try Before Calling A Towing Service

February 5, 2018 By WebGuy

Unlimited Recovery and Towing emergency roadside towingIt is not unusual at all to call a roadside emergency towing service when your car gets stuck in the snow, but depending on the weather there may be a long wait for help to arrive. Still, with a little bit of imagination and manual effort, a car can sometimes get unstuck without professional assistance. Here are five things to try before calling for professional towing help. However, it is  strongly recommended to call roadside emergency towing if the car has met with an accident or is off the road in a ditch.

Rock the Car

You should straighten the wheels and start the engine. Using a low gear, drive forward. Then reverse and back the car up a bit. Again, move forward and then back.  This back-and-forth motion (rocking) can tamp down loose snow causing the tires to gain traction.  Continue this several times until you feel the tires grip. However, if the tires just spin (you’ll hear it), stop this method.  Spinning tires will only make the situation worse.

Pushing

If you can find a couple of people to help, you can try pushing the vehicle. Be sure to start pushing the car and applying gas at the same time (like on the count of three). Again, using a low gear, apply the gas gently, so movement is slow and smooth. Also, be extra cautious about the safety of the pushers.

Chain Up the Wheels

If you have snow chains, this is the time to use them. In fact, the application of snow chains can get your vehicle out in most of the cases.   If you don’t know what snow chains are, you probably live in the South so just move onto the next suggestion.

Add Some Traction

Sprinkle some sand in front of the tires to add traction.  If you don’t have access to sand, any of these items can also be used to help with traction:  kitty litter, newspapers, cardboard or car floor mats.

Reduce the Air Pressure

Try letting some air out of your tires. This move will increase the surface area of the tire in contact with the ground to create additional traction and may help a bit to move the car.  Don’t let out too much; you don’t want a flat tire.

If none of the above tricks work, it’s time to call the nearest roadside emergency towing service.  Call Unlimited Recovery and Towing at 919-790-9393.
